TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Friday morning, 200 students from local Jobs for America’s Graduates programs from across the region competed at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute.
The event offered cash prizes and a chance to go to the state competition. The events include employability skills, career presentations, prepared speaking, creative decision making, and group competitions like business planning, commercial and project-based learning.
Greg Lee, the executive director of the Western Indiana Workforce Development board said this event gives these students a chance to shine.
“It gives our students the chance to network with each other with students from the different schools and all of our judges today are from local organizations and employers, so they get a chance to interact with the students and make those connections,” said Lee.
He said that their main goal is to get these students prepared for what comes next.
“Our program is all about work readiness and career exploration, so we really want our students to have a plan for after high school to follow to get to the career that they want to be in,” said Lee.
The first-place winners in each competition will represent region 7 at the state competition in March.
