TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is holding a special type of fundraiser for Valentine’s Day this year, naming a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach.
The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is offering a unique experience for the holiday with its “Hisses and Kisses” fundraiser. For a donation of $10, you can name one of the museum’s Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Those who do will also receive a special digital valentine for the occasion. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go back into funding the educational programs, exhibits, and conservation initiatives the museum offers. The fundraiser is ongoing and will run up until February 14.
“We’re thrilled to offer our community a creative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day while support a great cause,” said Susan Turner, Executive Director of the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. “Cockroaches are surprisingly fascinating creatures, and this event helps us share their unique role in the environment with kids and families.”
Those who want to can also participate in “Meet the Hissers!” a program where you can get up close with the insects. The program aims to teach people about the important role these insects play in ecosystems around the world. This program will take place on January 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is included with admission.
