DUGGER, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A Dugger restaurant has introduced a way where customers can give back to the less fortunate in their community.
Union Station Cafe’s “No One Goes Hungry” board allows a customer to order a meal, pay for it, and then hang it up on the board for someone else to come forward and get fed. Dugger resident Debbie Ellis presented this idea to the restaurant with the hopes of it being helpful to the community.
“It is a little bit embarrassing because I just thought it was a great idea, and I have been friends with Jon for many years and he jumped on it,” said Ellis. “I’ve been a member of the Sullivan County Lions Club for many years, and we have done a lot of things to help people in the community, so when I saw this, I thought that this was another way that we could help out in the community.”
Owner Jon Jobbins said that this board has already been a success.
“She came in and purchased the first meal, and as she was in here there was another customer that purchased four more meals,” said Dobbins. “We then made a social media post about it, and we now have 34 meals purchased. A couple people came in yesterday and took advantage of it, so we are just here if you need a meal, come on in and get yourself a meal.”
Dobbins said these things are what having a restaurant is all about.
“If anybody ever needs anything, we are always here to help,” said Dobbins. “We try to help out as much as we can in our community as we are all about giving back here, especially in Dugger.”
Union Station Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
