TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A possible medical emergency caused a single car accident near State Road 42 and Raceway Road in Terre Haute, Wednesday afternoon.
UPDATE from Vigo County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Steve Meng:
Today at approximately 12:49pm, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Seelyville Fire Department, Riley Fire Department, and Transcare Ambulance responded to the intersection of State Road 42 and Racer Way by the Indiana National Air Guard base in reference to a crashed passenger car in a ditch. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and unconscious. Emergency crews arrived on scene and removed the driver from the vehicle. At this time it is believed that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency. The driver was traveling westbound on State Road 42 when, for an unknown reason, crossed over into the eastbound lane at the roundabout. The vehicle struck a curb which sent the vehicle off the roadway striking a Duke energy pole before striking the ditch.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment with serious injuries.
Original Report: The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department told our reporter on the scene that the crash could have been caused by the driver behind the wheel of the vehicle suffering a possible medical emergency.
Officials said the driver then went off the roadway hitting a utility pole and then ended up in a ditch.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries. Their condition is unknow at this time.
