MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Mattoon man is facing an attempted murder charge, after police say he allegedly ran over his ex-wife, in a Mattoon Walmart parking lot, and then left the scene.
According to a press release from the Mattoon Police Department, on Saturday 11, deputies were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot in reference to a hit-and-run accident where a white-colored truck hit two individuals and then fled the scene.
Upon arrival, the department said, two individuals were found injured and then transported to a local hospital.
One of the injured victims allegedly told officials that her ex-husband, Dennis White, was the driver of the truck involved in the incident.
After officers spoke to witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage, it was determined that White allegedly accelerated and turned his vehicle into the victims, who were walking in the parking lot.
Dennis White, 44, of Mattoon was arrested and charged with the following:
- Attempted first-degree murder
- Aggravated battery with great bodily harm
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
- Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries
- Reckless conduct
