VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Visitors to state historic sites can visit free of charge on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Angel Mounds, New Harmony, and Vincennes state historic sites will have free admission on January 20th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As long as weather is permitted, nearly all 12 sites in southwest Indiana will be open on Monday despite normally being closed. All sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors can visit Vincennes, the oldest town in Indiana, to learn about Indiana’s time as a territory and its time as the territory’s capitol from 1800-1813. Visitors can take guided tours of original structures from the time including the Territory Capitol Building and the Old French House to show what life was like back then. Attendees can also learn the history of the area becoming an important military outpost at a tour of Fort Knox II. Building tours are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and an outdoor tour will be available at 11:15 a.m.
