TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Maryland Community Church has been a staple in the Terre Haute community for quite some time and, this year, they are doing something special.
The church hosts thousands of Wabash Valley residents for Sunday service, every week, between their two locations.
This year, Campus Pastor Jim Pendleton, says they are celebrating a special birthday.
“We are celebrating 100 years this year”, Pendleton said. “In 1925, Maryland Community Church started officially as a church. We just decided that we are going to celebrate the birthday all year long.”
Throughout 2025, the church plans to make some big changes.
“We are going to be paying off the mortgage at our Highway 46 campus that has been over our head for several years”, Pendleton said. “This is the year that it gets paid off. This is also the year that we are going to do some building renovations. We continue to hit records of attendance as more and more people come to our campuses in Terre Haute, so we are going to be doing some church renovation projects to help our facilities.
The biggest change was announced Sunday morning during weekly service by Senior Pastor Scot Longyear.
“I’m here to officially announce today, that this fall, our next MCC campus will be in the city of Brazil”, Longyear said.
The church hopes the expansion will bring new residents into MCC.
“We have over 130 families that are attending from Clay County to one of our current Terre Haute campuses, so this will be a great opportunity for them to invite some people”, Pendleton said. “Family members, co-workers, neighbors to attend a MCC service in their own backyard.”
Maryland Community Church is planning to perform renovations throughout the summer.
Church services in Brazil will begin in November.
