TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun has announced the 2025 paving plan for the city.
Sakbun says the city’s paving budget increased to $3 million this year. The city invested $1.5 million, then the state matched that number as part of the Community Crossing Grant. Sakbun says there were over 15 roads listed in that proposed project, as well as paving included in other infrastructure projects.
“The city rates all of its streets on a scale of one to five,” Sakbun said. “One being good, five being bad, and you’re trying to get that average street rating number as low as possible. Other cities, some of our smaller cities around the Hoosier state, they’re able to do liquid pre-treatment to keep that rating as low as possible, but with 700 square miles, with the City of Terre Haute’s size, we’re still behind. Our average rating is not very good.”
