SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Sullivan County man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after leading law enforcement on a chase through the county.
Farmersburg Chief of Police, Cody Strain told WTWO that they received information that the vehicle was stolen. Strain located the vehicle on U.S. 41, north of Shelburn.
Officers received information that the vehicle was stolen out of Greene County.
After confirming it was a stolen vehicle Strain began a pursuit.
“I immediately turned around and initiated my lights, initiated a traffic stop, and then he fled,” Strain said. “We went from U.S. 41 up to County Road 1100 N, Cemetary Road, then we went westbound over to County Road 25 W back south toward North Central High School back out to US 41 Southbound.”
Strain went on to say that the traffic stop concluded on County 850 North in a field.
“There was a train coming and that was his only option,” Strain added.
Strain tells WTWO that officers were unaware of who was driving the vehicle at the time of the pursuit; they just knew that it had been reported stolen.
Roberto Ramos, the alleged driver, was taken into custody without incident. According to the Farmersburg Police Department, Ramos was also found in possession of several drug-related items.
Strain tells us Ramos is a Sullivan County resident and is currently at the Sullivan County Jail and is facing numerous felony charges including:
- Roberto Ramos
- Dealing Methamphetamine
- Criminal Conversion
- Resisting Law Enforcement
Strain was assisted by Indiana State Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sullivan City Police Department.
