Cumberland County, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Illinois State Police states that multiple crashes on Interstate 70 have forced a portion of the interstate to be shut down.
The incident began at about 1:30 p.m. Central Time on I-70 near milepost 124.
” ISP Troop 9 responded to and is on scene at the location above for the report of multiple traffic crashes involving multiple units,” officials wrote in an email to WTWO/WAWV. “I-70 eastbound is currently closed and traffic is being diverted to U.S. Route 40. This is an active crash scene and there is currently no additional information available to share at this time.”
Bill Brown, Clark County Sheriff, is asking local residents to stay off the roads “unless absolutely necessary due to the expected increase in traffic on Route 40.”
