TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As winter weather makes its way to the Wabash Valley, some local agencies are opening up as “warming centers” to help keep people warm during this surge of fridged temperatures.
Terre Haute Mayor, Brandon Sakbun, highlighted some of these “warming centers” in a Facebook post.
Those “warming center” locations include:
- Mental Health America of West Central Indiana (2750 Elm St., Terre Haute) – Open from Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m. through Monday, January 6 until 8 a.m.
- Annex at the Bridge Church (1520 N. 19th St., Terre Haute) – Open from Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. until Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
- Light House Mission (1201 South 13th Street, Terre Haute) – As of Noon, January 4, Mayor Sakbun says the Lighthouse Mission still has 20 bed still available for people looking to get out of the cold.
Other shelter and housing resources shared by Mayor Sakbun:
- Bethany House Emergency Shelter (1402 Locus Street, Terre Haute) – Shelter for families, single women, and married couples. Open every day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- CODA Emergency Shelter (26 South 17th Street, Terre Haute) – 24/7 domestic violence shelter
- Light House Mission (1201 South 13th Street, Terre Haute) – 24/7 sober living environment for families, single men and women and married couples.
- Reach Pathways (504 South 15th Street, Terre Haute) – Day shelter with showers, laundry facilities and computers. Open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Reach Services (1400, Hulman Street, Terre Haute) – Housing and supportive services for low and moderate income individuals with special needs and their families. Open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Terre Haute Housing Authority (2001 North 19th Street, Terre Haute) – Housing for low and moderate income individuals and families including elderly and handicapped persons. Open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
