VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As the winter storm approaches, the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency wants to share how people can put themselves in the best position possible for when it hits.
Deputy Director of the Vigo County EMA Keith Holbert said the best things to have in these situations are sources of backup power, non-perishable foods, and multiple forms of communication in case of emergency.
He said the best thing to do, if possible, is to stay put.
“If you don’t have to be out, don’t go out,” said Holbert. “It is going to take a while for the road crews both highway and city units to get the roads cleared off. They will do the primary roads first and then they will move onto the secondary roads. If you don’t have to be on the road, stay home.”
Holbert said that if you don’t have everything that you need right now there is still time to prepare.
“You have time as this isn’t supposed to hit until Sunday,” said Holbert. “You still got some time to go out and get some things if you need to.”
Holbert said their agency along with other county agencies will be posting updates on social media as things progress this weekend.
