ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: According to Indiana State Police, the man accused of shooting an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy near French Lick has been shot and killed.
ISP says the two day manhunt ended when Austin Schepers, 33, was confronted by police in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Schepers is accused of shooting Deputy Zach Andry multiple times following a traffic stop in the early morning hours of January 3 near French Lick. ISP says Deputy Andry is listed in “critical but stable condition” at University of Louisville Hospital.
Update: According to Indiana State Police, “The suspect vehicle has been located in the Orangeville area. If you notice a vehicle missing or someone walking in the area, please notify police. Please keep doors and windows locked. Schepers is still at large and still should be considered armed and dangerous.”
Indiana State Police has issued a statewide ‘Blue Alert’ seeking the public’s help locating a suspect.
The Blue Alert was issued for Austin Schepers who is wanted for the involvement of injury to a law enforcement officer.
Schepers is described as a 33-year-old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a cross tattoo under his left eye and multiple tattoos around his neck. He was last seen driving a silver 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix with Indiana license plate CRT921.

According to the release, an unidentified individual also occupied the suspect vehicle at the time of the incident.
The suspect(s) was last seen on Friday, January 3, 2025. The suspect(s) last known location was in West Baden, Indiana. West Baden is approximately 85 miles southeast of the WTWO station in Farmersburg and 104 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
