VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In light of the attack in New Orleans, Vigo County Commissioners and the Highway Department will be meeting to discuss security around events with large crowds.
Commissioners Chris Switzer said that the county has resources such as concrete blocks to block off the roadways and vulnerable areas that lead into the area of the event. He said that it would be preferable if the groups hosting these events would give them and at least a month in advance notice so they can properly coordinate how to transport and locate those resources.
Switzer said the safety of the people and families in the community will always be their top priority.
“We are happy to participate in this and look into people’s safety as we want them to know that we are going to do everything that we can in our power to ensure all of these things happen,” said Switzer. “We are happy to have the conversations and am looking forward to it.”
This meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on January 6 at the Vigo County Annex.
