TERRE HAUTEW, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Art Spaces, Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Inc., and the City of Terre Haute have announced they will be moving a downtown sculpture to a new location.
The sculpture Max Ehrmann at the Crossroads by artist Bill Wolfe, which currently sits at the corner of 7th Street and Wabash Avenue will now be permanently relocated. The sculpture will now be located in the sidewalk bump-out area on the east side of 7th Street across from the Swope Art Museum. The reason for this move has to do with the construction of a new hotel in the area where the sculpture currently sits.
The City of Terre Haute and Art Spaces along with Land Stewards Design Group are currently working on designing a new space for the sculpture along with the original artist while the sculpture goes into storage for a short amount of time.
Max Ehrmann was a poet and philosopher who was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute and is most known for his work “Desiderata”. The original reason for his sculpture’s placement was due to it being a space he often wrote at known as the “Crossroads of America”.
