TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tuesday afternoon the Terre Haute Children’s Museum wanted to spread the message that you are never too young to celebrate the new year with its New Year’s Noon event.
The museum’s executive director Susan Turner said they think it’s important for kids to be included in holiday traditions.
“We believe that it is really important to celebrate traditions and that the children understand the passing of time and why it is important to celebrate those things,” said Turner. “Let’s face it, staying up until midnight with a 4, 5, or 6-year-old might be a little hard.”
Turner said these types of events tie in perfectly with the core mission of the children’s museum.
“The most important basis of our mission is play,” said Turner. “It is really important for kids to have an opportunity to play as that is the work of childhood. It is important to have events like this that they can come and play and have a good time with their friends, family, and celebrate such a fun tradition.”
Turner said that the true joy that is radiating off of these kids is what makes this event truly special.
“It is just such a special time as it is so much fun to see the kids get excited as some of the kids are literally shaking with excitement,” said Turner. “They love to catch the balloons, make their own crowns, and noisemakers. This is really a party for them to celebrate the new year that is going to come.”
