MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – Now is a critical time for blood donations, according to the American Red Cross.
The organization held a blood drive Tuesday at the U of I Extension Building in Marshall.
American Red Cross Account Manager Tara Field said it only takes four to five minutes to donate blood and said one donation can save up to three lives.
She added that blood donations typically drop during the holiday season.
“During critical weeks, which is right now, we need donors to come out because there’s so much travel. There’s actually a lot of people sick right now so donations have been down, so we encourage anyone who’s healthy and well to come out and donate,” said Field.
She said their next blood drive in Marshall will be on January 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene.
The event will accept walk-in’s but Field said appointments are appreciated and can be made online here.
Field said they hope to hold more blood drives at area churches and any church that is interested should contact the American Red Cross.
