TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The City of Terre Haute and Indiana American Water has announced that the next phase of the Terre Town Connect Project is underway.
The Terre Town Connect Project is an initiative set up to enhance public safety and improve the infrastructure in the Terre Town area. After feedback from the neighborhood, the city is making improvements to the area including installing eight new fire hydrants.
“We asked, we listened, and now we are delivering,” said Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “The Terre Town Connect Project reflects our commitment to working hand-in-hand with our community to create meaningful change. The addition of these fire hydrants is long overdue and marks a major step toward ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents.”
41 new residents were also able to pivot to the public utility water system from Indiana American Water as well after community input, though there wasn’t enough interest to convert the whole area. Those 41 residents were chosen based on their proximity to a nearby water main and a new water main planned for a housing development being built on Winslow Avenue. These new connections will not cost residents due to funding from the city covering the approximate $1,328 per home. Work is expected to start late February or early March.
