CANNELBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Indiana State Police say they were led on a chase Monday evening that led to the arrest of one man with nine felony charges and four misdemeanor charges.
According to a post on the Indiana State Police Jasper Post’s Facebook page, troopers were led on a chase around 6:10 p.m. after a traffic stop. The post states that a traffic stop was performed on a 2009 Chevrolet SUV for a taillight being out and traveling 69 mph in a 45 mph zone outside Cannelburg.
Police identified the driver as 47-year-old Kenneth Evinger of Montgomery, Indiana. According to the post, while the trooper had Evinger pulled over he noticed “indicators of criminal activity”. When the trooper asked Evinger to exit the vehicle he allegedly refused and while waiting for backup Evinger allegedly fled the scene.
The post goes on to say the trooper pursued Evinger at speeds near 100 mph and that the pursuit continued on to rural Daviess County roads. During this, the Chevrolet left the road, lost a tire, and got stuck in a ditch leading to Evinger exiting his vehicle and fleeing into the woods according to the post.
Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, and Pike County Sheriff’s Office all showed up to assist in locating Evinger. The post stated that after deploying both drones and K-9 units they were able to locate Evinger hiding in the woods and transport him to Daviess County Jail.
While searching for Evinger in the woods, some officers went to search for him at his home where they noticed more signs of criminal activity according to the post. After gaining a search warrant for the home, police say officers discovered nine grams of suspected methamphetamines, over six pounds of suspected marijuana, controlled substances, and paraphernalia.
Police say Evinger is now facing a level three felony charge of dealing methamphetamine, a level five felony of possession of methamphetamine, three counts of a level six felony of possession of a controlled substance, a level six felony of resisting law enforcement, a level six felony of maintaining a common nuisance, a level six felony of dealing marijuana, a level six felony of possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor of resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor of possession of paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor of leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and a class B misdemeanor of criminal recklessness.
