MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The State of Indiana carried out its first state execution in 15 years early Wednesday morning.
Joseph Edward Corcoran was pronounced dead at 12:44 a.m. central time following his lethal injection at the State Prison in Michigan City.
Corcoran was convicted in the 1997 murders of his brother, his sister’s fiancé and two of their friends.
The execution process began shortly after 12:00 a.m. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later, according to a statement by the Indiana Department of Correction.
When asked if he had a last statement, Corcoran said, “Not really. Let’s get this over with.”
