TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Friday morning was the latest Vigo County Commissioners’ Meeting and the future of a fire department is up for discussion.
The main topic of the meeting was the approval of petitions for the Nevins Township Fire Department to be absorbed by the Lost Creek Fire Department. Commissioner Chris Switzer said that Nevins Township has been struggling for years, and this will solve most, if not all, of these issues.
“There are no worries about service, actually, things will get better. Lost Creek will receive a little bit of extra funding, they could possibly add another employee, extra fire apparatus, better equipment, and respond better than Nevins has been able to for quite a while now.”
Switzer stated now they have to advertise a public meeting about this issue for 10 days, and then file this information with the state. Also, the property tax money that went toward Nevins will now go toward Lost Creek. He said that they are pleased, that people in these communities are going to be much safer.
“We are just happy to see them come and work together for the benefit of the community members in Nevins Township. Fire protection is important as it helps with insurance costs and safety for people in the community. We are happy to see it done.”
The public meeting for this will be held at the Vigo County Annex on December 27th at 9 a.m.
