SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Shelburn Community Center will now serve as a fully operational warming and cooling center during extreme weather events.
According to a news release, the Shelburn Police Reserve Association installed a new generator at the community center, with grand funds provided by the WIN Energy REMC Project Round-up. Cagle Heating and Cooling donated their time and expertise to complete the installation at no cost.
“We are incredibly thankful to WIN Energy and Cagle Heating and Cooling for making this project a reality,” said Matthew Price, president of the Shelburn Police Reserve Association. “This warming and cooling center will continue our efforts to provide safety and comfort for our community during times of need,” he added.
The center has also been equipped with cots and blankets, provided through additional funding sources and heartfelt donations from the community. The release continues that these resources will provide a comfortable and safe place to seek shelter during emergencies.
Price told WTWO that the warming/cooling center will open as weather permits. He noted that if an individual family has a need, they can call the Police Department at 812-397-0999 or visit the Shelburn Police Department on Facebook by clicking here.
The Shelburn Police Reserve Association would also like to extend its gratitude to the many individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of this initiative. The release states that the community’s support demonstrates the true spirit of community and ensures that no resident is left without resources during critical times.
