DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Road conditions led to a fatal accident Monday evening in Daviess County.
Around 5:50 p.m. Daviess County Central Dispatch received a report of a rollover accident with entrapment on I-69 near the 55 mile-marker.
According to a media release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, 76-year-old Phillip T. Wolter of Nashville, IN, was traveling northbound at an unknown speed. Due to road conditions, the vehicle left the roadway on the east side and traveled down an embankment, hitting riprap. It then continued back to the roadway before hitting riprap again, causing the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle came to a rest on its passenger side.
Wolter was transported by ambulance to Daviess Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police, Washington City Fire, Washington Township Fire, the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, and the Daviess Community Hospital Ambulance Service.
