WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A Vigo County School bus driver and eight students escaped injuries when the bus slid into a ditch.
According to Vigo County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Steve Meng, on Monday afternoon deputies responded to a school bus in a ditch in western Vigo County. The Vigo County School Corporation says it happened just outside the Fayette Elementary School campus shortly after dismissal.
Meng said the weather was the cause of the accident.
“The driver of the bus stated that she was turning onto new Goshen Avenue when her back end of the bus started to drift off the side of the road and ultimately went into the ditch,” Meng stated.
According to Meng, no injuries are being reported. The school corporation also said all students and staff are safe.
The school corporation says students were safely escorted off the bus and back into the school within minutes. It adds a replacement bus was dispatched to restart that route and many families opted to pickup their children.
