TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute holiday tradition lite up the night, Dec. 2. Christmas In the Park is now officially open at Deming Park.
At the park you can visit 19 decorated shelters that were decorated by various non-profit organizations. These groups are competing for prize money totaling around $14,000. There is also an extra $100 for the People’s Choice Award.
Prior to the lighting of the shelters, visitors could take part in a candy cane hunt for kids and music performed by the Terre Haute South Band. As the shelters were turned fireworks painted the sky over Deming Park.
Santa will be making special appearances on December 2 and 9 from 6-9 p.m. and December 7, 8 and 14 from 5-8 p.m. He will be available for pictures; you just need to bring your own camera.
This is the 38th year for the event. judging of the shelters is next Monday.
