LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After a 40 to 28 victory over the Indianapolis Lutheran Saints in the semi-state, the Linton Stockton Miners are headed to the state championship.
Stand-out wide receiver and cornerback Hayden Feltner said this journey hasn’t been an easy one.
“We started off the season a little rough as we didn’t have all of the things worked out that we needed to, but as the season went on, we started clicking and getting everything working and as you can see, we have been winning,” said Feltner.
Feltner said this is what all of his teammates have been working towards their entire football careers.
“We are going to go and give it our all and winning the state championship would be a dream come true,” said Feltner.
The joy of making it to the big game has spread to everyone throughout the school and the community. PLTW teacher and head varsity baseball coach at Linton Stockton Jacob Harden said he loves that all the hard work this team has put in is paying off.
“I think a lot of us always knew that this was possible and knowing that this is why they were showing up in the summer when it was 95 degrees, working hard, and doing two-a-days is for this moment right here,” said Harden. “To see their hard work being rewarded with a trip to Indy is pretty spectacular.”
Harden said that the community has been behind them all year and they wish nothing but the best for these student-athletes.
“It is awesome to see the community support that these boys are getting, and it is awesome to see their school supporting them because they deserve it,” said Harden.
The Miners will square off against Adams Central on Friday, November 29 at 11 a.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
