TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – With help from the City of Terre Haute and Sandbox Social, the Light House Mission in Terre Haute says that they are going to be able to provide nearly 300 extra Thanksgiving dinners on Thursday.
Mayor Brandon Sakbun partnered with the local business to host a night of fun and games with the community. Light House Mission chief operating officer Paul Shaw says that the fundraiser brought in $650 to go towards more meals.
“We’ll have some extra meals,” Shaw said. “If you need someplace to come and eat, come right on in, and you don’t have to register, you don’t have to sign your name, you’re welcome anytime. We do serve three meals a day, seven days a week. We’re the only food kitchen in Terre Haute that serves that number of meals.”
Sakbun says that he is thankful to have local nonprofits like the Light House Mission in the city.
“To help tackle problems like food insecurity, being homeless, government cannot do it all,” Sakbun said. “Having these nonprofits and having these businesses take the lead and being able to assist them is encouraging.”
Shaw says they will be serving up turkey, dressing, rolls, pies, and more.
“Without their help, without the help of the community, the Lighthouse Mission would not exist,” Shaw said. “There’s a tremendous need for housing homeless people in Terre Haute at this present time, so we’re thankful to everyone for their help.”
The Light House Mission will begin serving meals to the general public at noon on Thursday.
