PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Parke County Health Department encourages people to make sure they’re vaccinated for pertussis, also known as whooping cough.
The Parke County Health Department says the Indiana Department of Health is investigating a potential case in Parke County.
Public Health Nurse Natalie Cole (RN-BSN) said the vaccine is included in the tetanus shot known as Tdap.
“Symptoms of whooping cough initially start off in the early stages with just a basic cough, stuffy nose, slight fever like any other respiratory virus,” said Cole.
She explained the cough worsens in the second stage of the illness. Cole added those most at risk of serious illness are infants and the elderly.
