TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Union Health said Monday that the company has withdrawn their current paperwork for the proposed merger with Terre Haute Regional Hospital but added that they will continue working on the plan.
Union Health signed an agreement to acquire Terre Haute Regional Hospital in September 2023. Both companies are working on the proposal with the Indiana Department of Health.
“Recognizing the COPA (Certificate of Public Advantage) process is a very complex, innovative approach to improving access and quality health care for area residents, we believe it is best to withdraw the current application to allow time for Union Health and Terre Haute Regional to continue to work with IDOH, to ensure the benefits, including improved access, quality, prevention and early intervention, are outlined in the new application,” Union Hospital officials wrote in a news release. “Union Health and Terre Haute Regional recognize the significance of a final approval, and the ongoing review process will continue to align with the principles of accountability and thoroughness as outlined by the COPA.”
The company added that they are committed to the process.
“With the same steadfast commitment of more than 130 years, Union Health remains dedicated to enhancing public health programming and improving health outcomes. We remain focused on developing innovative solutions to overcome the persistent health disparities and challenges plaguing our communities for decades.”
