TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One member of the Terre Haute Police Department received some special recognition.
THPD social worker Jarom Hawker has been nominated as a 2024 Hero for Recovery by Mental Health America of Indiana. The nomination recognizes his contribution to mental health and addiction recovery efforts within the community. Since beginning at the department in August of 2023, Hawker says his main goal has been to integrate the department into the community and showcase the resources that the police department has.
“My idea was to give them an extra advantage, an extra piece to helping people,” Hawker said. “Not only would they respond to people in crisis or respond to issues, but they could give somebody something more with me, so that way they wouldn’t still be needing assistance.”
Hawker and other nominees will attend a luncheon in Indianapolis next month.
