TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The city of Terre Haute has been awarded a 1.5-million-dollar Community Crossings Grant through the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The money will be used for 14 preventative maintenance projects and 2 pavement replacements to multiple roads throughout the city. This is a matching grant which means that the city now has 3 million dollars in total to work on these projects.
City Engineer Marcus Maurer said this is going to allow them to improve the quality of life in the area.
“This is a great opportunity and a great grant that we love because we can essentially take a million and a half paving dollars and turn it into 3 million,” said Maurer. “It lets us double the amount of work that we do and be a lot more productive.”
Maurer says they hope to start some of these projects in the near future and keep applying for this grant every year it is available.
