TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: The Terre Haute Police Department has a follow-up statement after the wreck Thursday morning that was posted to Facebook.
According to the THPD: when you see emergency vehicles approaching with lights and sirens, please follow these steps to ensure everyone’s safety:
- Stay Alert – Turn off distractions like your phone or loud music.
- Move Right and Stop – Safely pull over to the right side of the road and come to a full stop until the emergency vehicle passes.
- Do Not Block Intersections – If approaching an intersection, stop before entering and allow the emergency vehicle to pass.
- Stay Clear and Resume Slowly – Once the vehicle has passed and it’s safe, cautiously return to traffic.
- Following these guidelines helps emergency personnel respond quickly and safely. Thank you for doing your part to keep our roads safer.
A wreck occurred Thursday morning between a pickup truck and a firetruck that caused parts of Margaret Avenue to close down.
According to the Terre Haute Fire Department’s Captain Nick Arnold, THFD Engine Two got involved in a wreck with a pickup truck at around 10:05 a.m. in the area of Margaret Avenue and King’s Court. According to Captain Arnold, Engine Two was responding to an emergency with lights and sirens on when the pickup collided with the firetruck.
The individual driving the pickup had to be extricated from the vehicle by the crew of Engine Two. Afterward, the driver was taken to Union Hospital by Terre Haute Fire Department Medic Seven with no life-threatening injuries. Members of the Terre Haute Fire Department were also taken to Union Hospital for evaluation. Captain Arnold noted that they were wearing their seatbelts.
Terre Haute Police Department is currently investigating the incident and WTWO will update the story if more information becomes available.
