VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Several items on the agenda at Tuesday night’s Vigo County Council meeting.
Council members tabled a decision on whether or not to put cameras on the outside of the Vigo County Courthouse. The issue will be brought up again in December. They also talked about how the county still has federal money to spend including money from the American Rescue Plan Act. If the county does not spend that money it will go back to the federal government.
Another topic was the mandate issued by Vigo County Judges that court staff will get a bigger raise. The county council is fighting that mandate.
“We decided tonight under that resolution not to comply with their request, so then we will have to go to court. When you go to court then there’s a judge that will be appointed from the (Indiana) Supreme Court. At that point, they may negotiate,” Council President Todd Thacker said.
In court documents the judges say they mandated the raise because the court staff is underpaid and the courts are at risk of “debilitating consequences” if they can’t keep these employees.
