TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Police Department and City of Terre Haute have announced a new partnership with Flock Safety.
Flock Safety is a series of cameras that go into a network that gives real-time information. Several agencies, including the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, already use this technology. THPD public information officer Sgt. Justin Sears says that there will be 20-30 cameras placed throughout the city, and they can be used to solve, prevent, and deter crimes.
“It could be anything as simple as somebody who just committed a serious crime,” Sears said. “If we have a vehicle description or a license plate, we can enter that in, and when that car comes across a camera that’s been placed throughout the city, it can give immediate notifications of that location to our officers.”
Sears says the department will also have access to Flock Safety information from across the country once it begins in Terre Haute.
