TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— An attempted traffic stop by the Vigo County Sheriffs in the early hours of Friday led to a pursuit that ended in a crash.
At 1:38 a.m. a deputy with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department attempted a traffic stop at 1st Street and Raymond Drive. When the deputy attempted the stop the vehicle fled the scene north on 1st Street. The chase continued west on Springhill Drive, then north onto State Road 63, before heading east on Jones Road. After that, the driver, Grant Cooper of Terre Haute, tried to cut through the Haute City Center parking lot before eventually making it out onto U.S. 41. While the pursuit continued south down U.S. 41, an attempted turn into Towne South Plaza ended with the Cooper crashing into a ditch.
Two passengers with Cooper received minor injuries. Cooper was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of body armor while committing a crime. One of the passengers as well was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
