TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A 60-year-old Terre Haute man has been arrested by THPD after allegedly raping a 25-year-old mentally disabled woman multiple times.
Robert Kelsheimer was arrested and charged with a level three felony of rape according to a Probable Cause Affidavit (PCA) and is currently in the Vigo County Jail with a bond set at $50,000 with no 10% allowed. According to the PCA, an officer with the Terre Haute Police Department received a call from an employee with Adult Protective Services (APS) after the Hamilton Center informed her of a possible rape. The woman in question according to the PCA is, “…mentally disabled to the extent that consent to sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct cannot be given”.
The PCA states on October 31, That the victim was brought to Susie’s Place by APS for an interview. At Susie’s Place, the victim gave an explanation of the events that had occurred with Kelsheimer. Upon the conclusion of the interview, the victim was taken to the hospital where a sexual assault kit was collected and during the examination, it was determined the victim had contracted an STI.
On Wednesday, officers with the THPD executed a warrant for Kelsheimer. Kelsheimer answered the door and retreated when he noticed it was THPD and refused to speak with officers. A search warrant was granted and officers were forced to use a breaching tool to gain entry. Court documents state Kelsheimer was belligerent during the interactions. An initial hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on November 13.
