TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The race for the District 3 Commissioner seat in Vigo County has ended and Mike Morris is the winner.
Republican incumbent Mike Morris and Democratic candidate Tony Kassissieh were vying the seat.
Morris won with 23,699 votes or 59.47 percent to Kassissieh 16,151 votes.
In the run-up to the election Morris said, going forward, he is looking to continue adding to the county with housing and road improvements.
We have some appropriations, some money, to make some more road improvements and build out our county. We’ve got some infrastructure things. We’ve initiated a housing development program through Thrive.
On Tuesday night Morris said he is thankful for all the support from Vigo County.
“Elections are always interesting. You never know, you have a lot of different feelings, but it’s great to be re-elected. We are going to do some great things for Vigo County. Thank you for your support and we will continue to do a great job for you.”
Morris says that the agenda was already full before the election and now they can begin completing it.
“We’ve got a lot of things in the pipeline and want to continue that. We still have the old jail to finish demolishing and a nice new road and handicap access for the courthouse. We have to redo our plan for paving for next year, get that lined up here over the winter, get ready to go for the Springtime. There’s several things on the agenda.”
