TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A Thanksgiving Day tradition will race on later this month in downtown Terre Haute.
The 11th Annual Terre Haute Turkey Trot will take place the morning of Thanksgiving. The event features a 5k and one mile run, with chances to win awards and prizes.
The event is also an opportunity to help out families in need, as participants are encouraged to donate canned goods.
Last year, over 7,000 pounds of food were collected for local food pantries.
Organizers are expecting a lot of people to participate this year.
“We were just checking pre-registration numbers and our pre-registration numbers are higher than they’ve ever been, so we’re already at about 200 athletes already signed up and we still have quite a few weeks before the race. So, we’re looking to hopefully be at one of our biggest races ever, which is super exciting,” said Ethan Page, Race Director.
Page added there are a couple of deadlines to keep in mind. If you want your name printed on your bib #, you need to sign up by November 7. The deadline to get a t-shirt for the event is November 22, which is the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
