SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Over the weekend, the Northeast School Corporation lost a beloved member of its faculty.
On October 27, Robin Halberstadt passed away at the age of 71 after being involved in an ATV accident. The Fairbanks resident was in his 46th year as a bus driver for the Northeast School Corporation. School board secretary Jeri Greve says he made a lasting impact on the students who rode his bus.
“We had our students for nine months, but when you think about a bus driver, they will have those kids maybe 10-12 years,” Greve said. “When you think 10-12 years times 56-60 kids on a bus, 46 years, that’s a lot of kids that he has brought safely to and from our school.”
Northeast School Corporation officials say that Robin was a team player who would always do what was asked, whether it was changing a route or filling in. School board president Don Ransford says one word to describe him would be dedication.
“So many school corporations, and ours is no exception, have trouble finding bus drivers,” Ransford said. “Robin was with us, never thought about retiring, never thought about quitting, he was a solid bus driver for us and we really appreciate that.”
Fellow bus driver Dwight Boyll says Robin would always put others first and was a great friend.
“He was the type of guy that if you needed any help or if you had a problem, you could go to him, he’d help you,” Boyll said. “If he had the ability he was always willing to help you and he’s going to be missed.”
