TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Regional Engagement for the West Central Indiana Partnership, Josh Alsip has been recognized by the Lieutenant Governor.
Josh Alsip was one of the recipients of the 2024 Lieutenant Governor’s Hoosier Hospitality Award for Excellence in Hospitality. Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) presented Tuesday at the Indiana Landmarks Center 11 tourism industry representatives with a Hoosier Hospitality Award for their high level of service in tourism-related jobs at hotels, restaurants, attractions, and other destinations.
“Hoosier hospitality is at the core of this ceremony,” said Elaine Bedel, IDDC Secretary and CEO. ” We see it and feel it every day in Indiana. In hospitality and tourism, we take great pride in our communities and recognize the importance of going the extra mile and how much it makes a difference.”
Josh Alsip has been Vice President of Regional Engagement for the West Central Indiana Partnership for the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce since October 7 of this year and previously served as the Director of Community Engagement since 2021. The West Central Indiana partnership consists of five counties in Indiana consisting of over 180,000 residents with the goal of helping move the region forward by creating a network of people to advance opportunities through. Alsip has been recognized not only for his hospitality but also helping launch the Internship Experience, which offers 5-week programming for businesses and participants where interns attend social events with local leaders, get leadership training, and network with peers, as well as putting together multiple community events.
“Just being welcoming to people that are coming and visiting Terre Haute and are in the community for a certain period of time is important,” commented Alsip on winning the award. “Our goal is to attract people to get them to come and visit here. I think that visitors are often kind of the entryway into that. You never know what encounter you can have with people by showing some hospitality that will make them want to live in the community, and you know that’s kind of our philosophy.
Alsip went on to say it’s a collaborative effort between everyone he works with that enables them to create a place people want to visit and move to.
