SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Sullivan County Coroner expects it will be two to three weeks until the cause of death is released for a Greene County woman and her son.
Samantha Jerrell and her 14-year-old son Colton were found dead last week in a shallow grave at Bear Run Coal Mine. Sullivan County Coroner Joe Coffman says the manner of their deaths is being investigated as a homicide. However, he is not releasing the cause of death until he receives the full report from the forensic pathologist.
He adds that a full forensic autopsy was conducted at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Coffman says, “my team of Medico-Legal Investigators, Indiana State Police, and [the] Greene County Sheriff and his team were present to see that justice is done for Sam and Colton.”
Police arrested Joshua Penick in the case. He faces several charges including two counts of murder.
A Public visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Friday, October 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a link to their obituary can be found here.
