SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Voters in Sullivan and Vigo Counties have been using several resources to get through election season. Local officials say it is important to take advantage of those resources while you still can.
With the last day to request an absentee ballot being October 24, local clerks like Tonya Bedwell in Sullivan County say that the application must be turned in to their office, as it would not arrive in time if sent via mail.
“So far we’ve had over 400 mail-in applications and ballots that’s went out, and over 1,050 in-person voters that showed up so far,” Bedwell said.
2024 is the first year that Sullivan County has utilized voting centers. Chief deputy clerk Alesha Arnett says that the voting process has become much more convenient for the community.
“They will be open the next two Saturdays from 8-3 here at the courthouse and at the Turman Township Community Building in Graysville,” Arnett said.
Over in Vigo County, they have already had over 10,000 cotes made at voting centers and 1,500 mail-in votes. Election supervisor Elizabeth Stiverson says there is a common trend that voters should try to avoid.
“A lot of times people will try to vote on Monday the day before the election,” Stiverson said. “All of our vote centers are closed on that Monday except for the Vigo County Annex, and they are only open until noon, so don’t wait until Monday to vote. Get in there by Saturday before the election and that’s when you’ll want to vote by.”
Both counties will also have additional voting centers open on Election Day, which is November 5.
