TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An apartment suffers damage during an early evening fire on Monday October 21, at the Highland Terrace Apartments.
Fire officials say a juvenile playing with a lighter caused the fire. Fire Chief Tom High said his crew was dispatched to the fire after reports of fire.
The fire crew quickly extinguished the fire that had started on the first floor. People inside the apartment building were able to get out safely, however some on the second floor were trapped inside and needed to be rescued from the balcony of their apartment.
During their investigation, High said the fire was started by a juvenile playing with a lighter.
