LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Linton Fire Department has officially named a permanent fire chief.
Eric Carpenter has been the interim chief for the past 7 months and officials thought he was the best fit for the role. Carpenter said that he has been busy since the beginning and that has no plans of changing any time soon.
“We have our new smoke alarm program,” said Carpenter. “Anyone that wants to reach out can get those installed in their homes. It is a busy month here as we have our fire safety program going on. Anyone that is interested in fire safety and education on that can reach out to the fire department and we would be glad to accommodate them for that.”
Carpenter said that when he started at the fire department years ago that he had no intentions of pursuing this role. However, he said as time passed and he worked his way up the ladder, there couldn’t have been a better fit.
“As time progressed and I got older, I got more comfortable in my role as I then seeked the position of a captain,” said Carpenter. “Now, this position just felt like a natural fit to do. I just want to thank everybody for having the faith in me to do this job.”
Carpenter also wanted to mention that their Local 3087 Fireman’s Union will be hosting a gala on November 9.
