TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A wellness program for Vigo County schools is benefiting both students and staff alike.
Wednesday we visited Ben Franklin Elementary School which is participating in the VCSC wellness program.
The program creates various afterschool activities such as a basketball club run by DJ Shouse, the CEO of Beast Training.
“I just like having a positive impact on as many people as I can so it’s been a wonderful experience for me, just coming in here and seeing the smiles on some of these kids’ faces. A lot of them getting the opportunity that they might not ever get,” Shouse said.
The wellness program is headed by VCSC Wellness Champion Kristen Eberly. She explained the benefits the program has had at Ben Franklin.
“It’s been such an asset to our school specifically,” Eberly said. “Our students are excelling. We’re using it as behavior incentives because they’ve got to make good grades and have good behavior to be able to participate.”
The program has also led to the creation of other athletic clubs, as well as efforts like a community wellness bash and food donations for those in need.
