TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With just less than 40 days away from election day, Hoosiers will soon cast their votes for Governor and Lieutenant Governor for the state of Indiana.
Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Govenor, Terry Goodin running alongside Jennifer McCormick shared their McCormick/Goodin campaign main points.
“Every single Hoosier is going to be treated with dignity and respect,” said Goodin.
Terry Goodin, serving as a longtime public educator and former superintendent, he says the first thing the campaign will address if elected is the broken education system.
“We’re going to make sure the big word in education is opportunity,” said the Democratic candidate. “That’s when (students) graduate from high school they have a choice. They have the opportunity to go to college. They can have the opportunity to join the military. Or they can get great job, a good union job where they are going to be able to provide for their families.”
Outside of education, the democratic campaign plans to give small businesses in the state of Indiana a great opportunity to succeed.
“Small businesses, by the way which is the number one job creator in the state of Indiana,” said Terry Goodin. “We’re going to make sure they have equal footing when they go into competition in whatever that competition make look like. We are going to level that playing field and we are going to make sure everyone gets an equal opportunity to succeed at their fullest potential.”
Across the state, another rising question as we head into election season is the use of cannabis in Indiana. With all neighboring states legalizing marijuana, the McCormick/Goodin campaign has been clear where they stand on this concern.
“We want to put together a very operative procedure to be able to move toward adult recreational use of cannabis, but that starts with media marijuana,” said Goodin. “We’re going to learn from other states that have done this and made mistakes. What did you mess up on here, how do we do it and not make that same mistake?”
