TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Friday afternoon a local Goodwill employee said goodbye to his peers and coworkers after over 50 years of service.
Darrell Christy has spent the past 54 and a half years at Wabash Valley Goodwill where he has filled numerous roles. On Friday, he celebrated his retirement.
He said that there hasn’t been a moment where he hasn’t loved it.
“I loved it very much,” said Christy. “I am going to miss everybody because everybody was nice. I just loved every bit of it.”
Christy said that his coworkers always kept helping him no matter what.
“If I did something wrong, they would tell me,” said Christy. “Sometimes I can be clumsy and falling down, but they always kept me going.”
In honor of this lifelong achievement, the Vigo County Commissioners read a proclamation on behalf of Christy and Wabash Valley Goodwill.
“Goodwill is great for this community as they employ people for a very long time and that is a testament to the type of business they have and what they do for the community,” said Commissioner Chris Switzer. “I couldn’t be more excited for Darrell, his family, and the future employees that we are going to celebrate as well.”
Christy said that he plans to focus on trying to stay busy and spend as much time with his family as possible.
