WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — High winds caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene have impacted the Wabash Valley.
Power crews and law enforcement were very busy this evening, dealing with power outages, vehicle accidents and tree damage. A Putnam County deputy was out of his vehicle working a car/tree accident, when another tree fell on his vehicle, the sheriff’s office says no one was hurt.
As of 10:30 pm, Duke Energy reported over 5000 customers have lost power in the Terre Haute area. But Duke has also restored power to many customers.
In the WIN Energy coverage area , nearly 1000 customers were without power.
The same kind of weather has led to thousands of outages to the east of the Valley. Winds are expected to subside later tonight
