BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On Monday teachers within Clay Community Schools took a day to learn the latest in their profession.
Not only how best to reach their students, but how new technology is changing their classrooms. Its Technology Instructional Specialist Dianna Knox said this topic is becoming crucial.
“This morning, we have breakout sessions that talk about the science of reading, universal design for learning, along with some other district initiatives,” said Knox. “We will then bring everybody back right before lunch to discuss artificial intelligence because that is everywhere and something that we have to start thinking about.”
Knox said teachers are busy every school day and this time helps them evaluate and prepare for the future.
“Teachers are really hungry for this time together and professional learning with no subs, they can’t leave the classroom, and we can’t pull them out,” said Knox. “To have a day where we can bring them in and talk about things that are relevant to them is really important.”
Knox said this helps all teachers come together to learn the best ways to teach.
“By having this opportunity today, we are going to give them some of those times together and validate what they are doing,” said Knox. “The other side of this is that we want to empower them and lift them up and make them feel appreciated for what they are doing as well.”
Knox added that they plan to do another one of these this summer so these teachers can be motivated going into next school year.
