TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — The Vigo County Sheriffs department has issued a scam alert.
It says people have been receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a deputy sheriff, or that they are from the “warrants and citation division.” The caller then tells people that there is a warrant for their arrest for missing jury duty or other reasons. They then request them to pay money or face jail time.
These phone calls are scams.
No law-enforcement officer will ever call requesting money. Do not send money to anyone under these circumstances.
